Cam Followers have been among the most important engine components. DP controlled manufacturing processes, CAD design and FEA analysis will ensure innovation in cam follower design and manufacturing good enough for any field of motor sport application. Two different choices of materials like 4340 chromoly steel or the highest quality even stronger H13 tool steel for the most demanding applications. Both of our material type followers are nitride heat treated which offers several advantages over carburised treatments, such as excellent levels of hardness, and retainment of dimensional accuracy. The Nitrided component is resilient to softening and will retain its surface hardness up to temperatures of 500 degrees C, where on cooling the whole component will revert to its original hardness. These components are less easily heat damaged by temporary lubrication failure than their carburised counterpart. Nitride hardening improves fatigue strength and a mean hardness of 750-950 HV is achieved by using custom baskets allowing the component to be uniformly exposed to the process. Tool steel followers offer of course higher strength than normal chormoly ones since the actual material is stronger already plus the hardness levels pre-grounding is increased. |
